SHADOWSIDE Comments On ROCKLAHOMA Cancellation

July 16, 2008

A severe storm forced the organization of North American festival Rocklahoma to cancel the appearances of several acts such as the Brazilian female-fronted band SHADOWSIDE, currently on tour through the United States for the second time. Even though the event is one of the largest of its type worldwide, the side stages structures could not handle the winds of 65 mph. Both stages collapsed and were completely destroyed, as well as a good part of merchandising from all bands.

"What surprised me was the fact that only the side stages blew down since the tents, some of them so large that served as food courts for over 1,000 people, were not even damaged," said Flavio Garrido, SHADOWSIDE's manager. "The area is known for its strong winds. I don't understand why the organizers who are familiar with the weather did not prevent this by setting up safer stages."

Luckily, no bands were performing at the side stages at the time. Production noticed the storm coming and asked the crowd and musicians to look for shelter. One person got hurt and another was taken to Mayes County Medical Center with a broken arm. Ten people suffered minor injuries.

"Our appearance at Rocklahoma, as well as ASPHALT VALENTINE's (also on Chavis Records) and several other bands', got cancelled due to both stages being completely destroyed by the storm," said SHADOWSIDE lead singer Dani Nolden. "We are very sorry for what happened since it was our first time in Oklahoma, we are sad for the people who messaged us saying they were looking forward to seeing us live and for those who got injured (thankfully no one got seriously hurt). However the tour goes on and we still have three shows in Chicago, as well as gigs in Chillicothe and Columbus, OH, Warren, MI and Imperial, PA. We hope to come back in a near future either in a festival or as headliners. We will return to Oklahoma!"

SHADOWSIDE recently posted two new tracks on its MySpace page. The songs "Nation Hollow Mind" and "In the Night" will both be included on the group's forthcoming album, "Dare to Dream", due before the end of the year. The follow-up to "Theatre of Shadows" (2006 - Universal Music Brazil; 2007 - Chavis Records worldwide) was produced and mixed by Dave Schiffman (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, AUDIOSLAVE, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) and will be mastered by Howie Weinberg (AEROSMITH, IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, PANTERA) at Masterdisk Studio in New York.
